PROGRAMME 2011 - 2012

16th June 2011    Visit to the National Botanic Gardens, with guided tour. Own transport (car share), meet there at 11 am. Numbers limited, no vacancies. Cost £7 pp.


23rd June               “Cilgerran Castle - Past, Present and Future” by Catherine Collins


21st July               Walk along the River Teifi. Meet at the riverside car park at 10.30 am (near the floating restaurant) to visit the original site of Cardigan Castle.


14th July               Lunch at The Golden Lion, Newport. First of our new series of occasional pub lunches. Please book place with Ronnie Hind by 23rd June. Meet there, order from menu, pay on day.


28th July               “Cardigan RNLI - Lifesaving through the years” by Simon Mansfield at Poppit Lifeboat Station, followed by optional lunch at the Webley.


18th August          Walk at Nevern. See “Walks” page for details.


25th August          Members’ Day - 10-minute talks by a select few. NOT replaced by “Cilgerran Castle - Past, Present and Future” by Catherine Collins, but featuring talks by Geoffrey Summers, Arthur Walters (“Teaching in Malasia”) and Alan Rhys Williams.


14th September     Joint meeting with Teifiside Probus Club at the Cliff Hotel, Gwbert . Talk by Dr Richard Ireland, Senior Law Lecturer at Aberystwyth University.


22nd September   Walk near Poppit. See “Walks” page.


13th October          Lunch at “The Salutation”, Felindre Farchog, 12.30 for 1.00 pm. Names to Ronnie (01239 682347) by 6th October.

27th October         “How to prevent an aircraft from falling out of the sky”. Talk on aero-engine design by Colin Lewis.

24th November      “Life as an army Chaplain” by the Rev. Aled Thomas.  


15th December      Christmas lunch. The Cliff Hotel, Gwbert

26th January 2012  “Area 43” - information and support services for young people, by Phil Layton.


23rd February      Starting at 11.00 for 11.30! “The Little Heir”, an entertaining extravaganza with a stunning stellar cast and directed by one of the most talked-about thespians, followed by St David’s Day lunch at Hammet House. Booking essential for the lunch via Ronnie Hind, (01239 682347)


29th March            “Classic Car Restoration” by Emyr Phillips.
