Midsummer Luncheon Party – 7 July 2016

The lunch was held at The Harp, Letterston, attended by over 30 members and guests who all enjoyed a very good meal and good company. A large part of the entertainment was the confusion at the start about who ordered what, with a very varied and complicated range of choices, but everyone had what they wanted at the end! Certainly a place to visit again.

The history (and future) of stamps

For our July meeting we had a fascinating talk from Erene Grieve, a retired teacher who is now sponsored by the British Postal Museum to visit schools throughout the country introducing children to the joys of stamp collecting. She also runs several stamp clubs in Pembrokeshire schools and we were privileged to see some wonderful examples of their project work. We were all left regretting the opportunities we have lost due to giving up our childhood interest and feeling better through having enjoyed a fascinating hour’s talk.

VISIT TO PICTON CASTLE

The coach left Finch’s Square at 11am on Wednesday, 8th September. A guided tour of the castle and art galleries was followed by about 2 or 3 hours to explore the formal, wooded and herbal gardens, a lawnmower collection, shops and tearoom before leaving in time to return to Cardigan by 5pm.

The weather was fine and a good time was had by all! See the Notices page for some photographs.

Speaker for September 22nd.

Unfortunately, the speaker for our meeting on September 22nd , Harry Jackson, has had to cancel his engagement due to business commitments, but we hope to hear his talk at a later date. As was noted in the programme, he was a member of the Applejacks group and is now working as a River Teifi ranger.

We have been fortunate that a replacement speaker has been found and look forward to hearing Martin Small speak on “The Fishguard Fiasco of 1797”.
